The Goldmann Applanation Tonometer is still the most widely used instruments to measure intraocular pressure. The "Goldmann" method allows IOP measurements to be taken with the patient at the slit lamp as part of a routine. The accuracy of the measurement is extremely high. The average deviation in any one single examination does not exceed +/- 0.5. mm HG.
