Quickly becoming everybody’s favourite iris dilator, the Malyugin ring inserts and removes easily using the same opening used by the phaco tip. Four circular loops hold the iris at equidistant points and provides balanced stretching and gentle holding of the iris tissue.
The two-piece Malyugin Ring System comprises the single-use Malyugin Ring Pupil Expander and injector. The ring can be easily loaded into the injector by the OR technician or the surgeon and can be inserted into the eye without creating additional incisions.
The scrolls in each corner of the 5–0 polypropylene collapsible square form a coil that grasps and holds the iris in place. The ring contacts the iris at eight points to provide a wide, natural, circular opening without damaging the iridal sphincter.
When the Malyugin Ring is used in cases of Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome, it keeps the iris from prolapsing into the primary incision, and ensures the pupil remains open during the cataract’s removal.
